One of the best things about this job is meeting real characters, especially at a time when the business of news can seem unrelentingly grim.

George Coghlan is one of those characters. Ninety years old - or young, depending on how you look at it. When I spoke with George during the week, he told me about his skydiving adventure. Only his second time in an aircraft and he'd leapt out of it. Telling his story was the highlight in a punishing few months. His philosophy of life - "You don't get anywhere standing still" - is one from which we could all benefit.
George is a reminder, too, not to judge a book by its cover. Someone might look old, even a little frail, but each and every one of us has a story to tell and those who take the time to listen stand to gain so much.
If you know someone you think has a great story to tell, please let us know.
