Winter food makes us warm and contented; the hot soups and stews are hard to beat.
For some of us homemade fish and chips or other deep-fried comfort foods are the ticket, however there is danger lurking among the chicko rolls and chicken nuggets as they happily fry away turning into hot tasty tasty morsels.
If you are deep frying you must keep an eye on the fryer, you cannot go and watch the television or get on the google.
"Why not?" you ask.
The answer is simple. You may burn your house down.
Police attend a number of house fires throughout winter with many of them starting in the kitchen and spreading rapidly.
We all know that house fires cause a lot of destruction and could take your life.
Fire and Rescue NSW, on their website, indicate that almost half of all home fires are started in the kitchen.
The key to reducing the risk of fire occurring in your home and to surviving a house fire is being prepared.
Everyone in your household should understand what risks there are in your home and what to do to minimise them.
All I am saying is be aware of the risks of fire in the home, install fire alarms and make sure the ones you have are working.
Don't die for a dim sim and certainly do not burn your house down for a chicken nugget.
