A MAN who pleaded guilty to deliberately lighting a fire in bush just west of the heart of Nowra last September has been sentenced to seven years' jail.

Scott Alexander McArthur, 41, will spend at least four years' behind bars.
McArthur, who had previously listed his address as "bushland", pleaded guilty to intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread in Nowra District Court on Thursday, June 18.
Court papers said McArthur started the fire in bushland between Depot Road and Berry Street, just west of the heart of Nowra, between 5.25pm and 5.35pm on September 14 and was reckless as to the fire's spread to vegetation in the area.
Emergency services attended the area and extinguished the fire that had spread to approximately 100 square metres in size.
McArthur was later arrested by police.
Judge Stephen Norrish sentenced McArthur to seven year's jail with a non-parole period of four years.
He will be eligible for parole on September 14, 2023.
