Shoalhaven City Council has committed to giving Marine Rescue Jervis Bay $50,000 for the planned upgrade of its rescue unit complex at Huskisson.

At the ordinary meeting on May 26, councillors unanimously voted to donate the funds from the 2020/21 budget.
Cr Mitchell Pakes, who brought forward the motion, said giving the funding was a no-brainer.

"This community group has done an inordinate amount of work," he said.
"The current facilities at Huskisson are now ten-years-old and have had minimal attention during that time in terms of maintenance."
Mayor Amanda Findley tried to add an amendment to the motion to ask the NSW Government to commit regular funding to Marine Rescue but it was not adopted.
The proposed works for the Huskisson site involve an expansion to training facilities and upgraded radio room space accommodating digital radio technology while meeting council's need for a first aid room, swimming pool maintenance facilities along with the existing accessible public toilet and showers.
Marine Rescue Jervis Bay have been working with council staff prior to March 2020 on the project.
It's expected the total cost to upgrade the building will be between $475,000 - $550,000.
