That's the belief of Peter Dover, CEO of Salt Ministries and Salt Care. Salt Care is a not-for-profit community support centre, who for the past eight years have provided food and clothing to Shoalhaven residents in need.
"Before COVID-19 we had about 580 regulars - now it's gone berserk and we're helping 980 families," Mr Dover said.
"We provide food deliveries to families that can't get out, and we have families come in each day because they can't put food on the table.
"There are a lot of young couples and single mums with part time jobs. The work has gone and they have to choose between paying the rent and putting food on the table.
"It's particularly hard for young mums - nappies and other baby products are so expensive."

Mr Dover said Salt Care had been able to keep up with the increase in demand thanks to the help of the broader community.
"We've had great support from the community and other organisations - it's been an amazing thing," he said.
"We've got lots of people volunteering to deliver groceries to people who are afraid to go out, who are isolating or elderly.
"We've been lucky to be resourced and supported to do it."
He predicts that things are only going to get tougher as the full economic consequences of consecutive emergencies are felt. Mr Dover remains confident, however, that everyone will get what they need to get through.
"If we pull together as a community we can meet the needs of our community, and we're seeing that on a daily basis," he said.
"People can come in and help stack and unpack food, prepare hampers, deliver food. Businesses can help out by donating goods or money."
