After making it through the opening rounds, the former St Johns student was pitted against fellow Australian Macy Callaghan in round four.
Wright's 6.60 and 5.67, for a combined 12.17, was enough to see off her rival's score of 11.83 at Manly Beach.
The Culburra Beach Boardrider, who made a stunning return to the waves at December's Maui Pro, will now go toe-to-toe with Hawaii's Gabriela Bryan in the Challenger Series quarter-finals.
This will be the first World Surf League Qualifying Series match-up between Wright and Bryan.
