"I'm playing with the current Australian captain, she's an amazing person. Missing an opportunity like that would be crazy," Murdoch grins.

Murdoch and teen teammate Aroha Spillane, from Cambewarra, will put their school studies on hold for a chance to play alongside Sharni Williams in the national sevens competition this weekend.

The University of Canberra duo have been recruited from the south coast, making the trek to the capital to chase their rugby union dreams.

But to join Williams in the last round of the season in Canberra, Murdoch is delaying her studies for a Higher School Certificate biology on Monday.

"I'll go home and study on Sunday night. My parents are so supportive ... they come to every tournament," Murdoch said.

"My teachers are supportive as well.

"Everyone's been pretty understanding.

"I've been studying on planes [before tournaments] ... every spare hour is a bit of study.

"I'm getting pretty slack, but it's pushing me along.

"It's such an amazing opportunity I've been given, I'd be silly to not take it."

Murdoch, 17, can drive herself to Canberra to join the rest of the squad at training, sometimes making the trip on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Spillane, also 17, doesn't have her licence yet so her mum has committed to driving for the five-hour trek from the Shoalhaven.

"Mum takes one for the team. It makes me want it even more [because of] her sacrifices, it makes me want to prove to her I want to do it," Spillane said.

"I played in Brisbane a few weeks ago with Sharni and it was an amazing opportunity to soak up her knowledge.

"It's crazy. I still don't know how to think about it being able to play alongside her, it's surreal."

Canberra is aiming for a breakthrough title at the team's home tournament, with some of the best sevens players in Australia to converge on the Brumbies training oval.

Williams has been injected into the Canberra side, but Australian teammates Charlotte Caslick, Mahalia Murphy, Evania Pelite, Shannon Parry and Emma Tonegato have been named on rival rosters.

Canberra is enjoying its best season and is fourth overall on the standings. with round games to start at 9am on Saturday.

"It's going to be a who's who of world rugby this weekend, there are probably five or six of the best players in the world," said sevens coach Liam McGrath.
