Infrastructure has been set up at Long Beach, north Batemans Bay, where the event will relocate to if conditions worsen tomorrow, February 15.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a hazardous surf warning for the South Coast on Friday, which is expected to stay in place throughout the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology said large and powerful surf conditions were being generated by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Uesi.
The three-day surf rowing event is part of the Australian Surf Rowing League (ASRL). Crews from across the country are competing. Racing is currently underway for Masters and Reserve crews. See live stream below.
ASRL officials said the decision to relocate the event will be made either tonight or early tomorrow morning. Long Beach is 45 minutes from Mollymook.
If the event is moved, Eurobodalla Shire Council's event coordinator Leisa Tague said residents of Long Beach can expect heavy traffic.
She said up to 50 vehicles with boat trailers could arrive on Saturday morning, along with additional operational crew and spectators.

"It's an elimination event and as competitors drop out, we expect any parking congestion to ease from midday on," she said.
Racing starts at seven in the morning and the competition will end around 5pm.
Ms Tague said the relocation was a good example of neighbouring shires working together to keep events running smoothly.
Saturday's racing starts with U19 male, U19 female and U23 female, followed late morning with open male, open female and U23 male. Three rounds of Tran Tasman (AUS v NZ) will take place throughout the day.
