NSW Masters Championships were held on February 7-8 at SOPAC in tough conditions before the third day of competition scheduled for Sunday, February 9, was cancelled due to deteriorating weather.

Nowra athletes excelled themselves demonstrating commitment, resilience and enthusiasm with many personal bests achieved as well as some bonus medals.
Ron Cox went into the competition with some self-doubt which was clearly unfounded as he won gold in the 60-64 years discus with a throw of 37.48m and silver in shot with 8.34m.
Masters thrower Kerrie Jones was as pleased as punch to come away with three silver medals. Kerrie said "it was hard going" and she had "never thrown in conditions as bad as that" so she was extra thrilled with the result. Kerrie threw 22.37m in hammer for second place in the 65-69 years event; attributing the extra hammer practice at Wednesday night athletics for helping her reach her goals. Kerrie also threw 6.65m in shot and 15.67m in discus for silver medals.
Kane Barrett brought home two silver medals for second place in the 40-44 years shot and discus. Kane threw 11.60m in shot and 31.23m in discus.
On the track, Angela Bond completed her first Masters State 5000m event finishing 4th in the 50-54 years event in a time of 25.27.66.
Peter Dooley added another bronze medal to his collection of medals with a third place in 60-64 years 1500m, clocking a time of 5.01.39.
Sprint super star Erin Smart claimed gold in the 35-39 years 400m, finishing in under 1 minute, with 59.28. Erin also won bronze in the 100m with 13.43.
