RFS public liaison officer Brad Collins said the looming dust cloud and smouldering logs are resulting in a number of calls to emergency services.
"At the moment we're getting lots of Triple-0 calls coming through - things like smouldering logs and trees," he said.
"Also we've got a large dust cloud which probably has a little bit of smoke in it too which has formed over the southern part of the Shoalhaven.
"There is also what appears to be a significant smoke colunm out to the west of Kangaroo Valley. We don't believe it's in the Shoalhaven Local Government Area but obviously people will be seeing that column."
The RFS said it was important to call Triple-0 when they see a fire but smoke isn't always a reason to.
"Don't necessarily call Triple-0 if you can smell smoke or if you can see a bit of smoke in the air, because we know things are dusty and smoky today and that's going to continue for the rest of the day.
"We're going to continue to see a northerly influence and we're supposed to get some thunderstorm activity later today and that will follow after the dust storm comes through.
"Then we're supposed to get a cooler change later on this afternoon. It will be an interesting afternoon."
The Clyde Mountain fire, in the northern end of the Eurobodalla Shire, has been upgraded to emergency alert level.
Mr Collins said for the Shoalhaven the Currowan fire remains at advice.
"I wouldn't rule anything out at this stage," he said.
"Everything we're getting so far is within containment so only if it breaks that will we change the alert level of the fire."
