RFS downgraded the Comberton blaze to advice level on Monday evening, after the blaze triggered an emergency alert in the afternoon.
Drivers were hampered as the Princes Highway was shut for a number of hours due to poor visibility as smoke blew in a south-westerly direction across the road. However, Braidwood Road, Kings Highway and Turpentine Road remain closed.
There was an increase in intensity on the western side of the Comberton fire leading up to noon on Monday as the fire approached Western Road forcing it to be upgraded to watch and act, and eventually emergency.
The Currowan blaze, which has converged with the Tianjara fire, remains out of control. It has burnt through more than 228,000 hectares.
Comberton has burnt more than 2,200 hectares and is also out of control. Aircraft and firefighters are working to slow the spread of the fire towards properties in the area.
Authorities have started to assess the damage caused by the ferocious fire that swept through Nerriga on Saturday night.
Property owner in the Nerriga district Jim Sturgiss told the Goulburn Post the family home at Sassafras was lost in the blaze.
"I also know that there were six homes lost up there at Sassafras," Mr Sturgiss said.
"That was about half the houses that were up there, so there could be more houses that are lost other than that."
He said there were also losses of homes along the road that turns off before Nerriga, just before the museum (Willow Forest Rd).
"There are a lot of houses up there in 100-acre blocks. There are 8-10 houses in a group area there and a bloke who got out told me that most of those houses there went, but there are some left.
"There will be a large number of houses gone at Nerriga"
