Match officials made the decision shortly after 9am on day two of the match following a further pitch inspection - with the visitors at 3/89.
The final result from the match is yet to be determined.
Cricket Australia will now work with Cricket Victoria and the Western Australian Cricket Association to reschedule the match.
If no date can be found, each team will be awarded three points.
Maddinson will now turn his attentions to the Big Bash, where his Melbourne Stars will open their 2019/20 campaign against the Brisbane Heat at Metricon Stadium on December 20.
