The inaugural Spring Gala Dinner was hosted by the Shoalhaven Community Choir and the Greenwell Point Hospital Auxiliary on September 7 and raised $7000 for Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.
Organisers were delighted with the turn out for the evening and support for the event.
Guests enjoyed quality local entertainers including Peter Bishop, Catie Halliday, Olivia Corish, Leanne Chamouille and Anthony Stone, who performed a variety of songs from jazz to opera.
Pre-dinner entertainment was also provided with the combined choirs of Shoalhaven Community Choir and Sing Australia Vincentia.
Guest speakers included Professor Dennis King, Chairperson of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Board, who spoke about the complexities of government funding and the importance of community involvement in raising funds for items for hospitals which government funding does not provide.
President of the Greenwell Point Hospital Auxiliary, Diana Metcalf was grateful for Professor King's words.
"Every year the hospital provides the auxiliary with a wish list of items which they need and we endeavour to raise money for these items," she said.
Money raised from the Spring Gala Dinner will go towards a bladder scanner for Medical Ward B and baby monitors for the neonatal unit.
The night also featured live and silent auctions and a raffle draw. Raffle tickets were sold by auxiliary members in the Nowra area for several months leading up to the event.
Local businesses were thanked for their sponsorship, which allowed the purchase of prizes for the raffle, which in itself raised $2,747.
The raffle was drawn on the night and winners announced. Margaret Hoschke was delighted to win first prize of a Samsung 49'' TV.
Southern Style Events supplied the lighting for the room and the tables were decorated with flower arrangements that were sold as auction items. The evening finished with a live auction, announcements of the successful bidders of the silent auctions and dancing.
Organiser Sue Hammond-Warne said the success of the evening has ensured plans will go ahead to host another on September 19, 2020.
