A Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter and Kangaroo Valley Rural Fire Service crews remained on scene to search for any sign of a plane down before they returned to base.
Emergency services were dispatched after a motorist reported seeing smoke from the engine of a plane and the aircraft took a nose dive then went behind a mountain.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman and a NSW Police spokeswoman said no plane had been found.
