Driscoll first started playing footy at the age of five, when he and his family lived in Sydney.

"Mum and dad wanted me to start playing a winter team sport and the Willoughby Wildcats had an Auskick group down the road every Sunday," Driscoll said.

"Mum tells me that she had heard that AFL had a positive culture and thought it looked like a good sport for all-round fitness."

Driscoll then continued to play with Willoughby before the family moved to the Shoalhaven in 2016, which saw him join the Bay and Basin Bombers under 10s side.

Since then, the Sanctuary Point Public School student has represented the Shoalhaven Swans on three occasions (2017-19), played for the South Coast Marlins in 2018 and 2019 - with him captaining the team to a PSSA Sportsmanship and Fair Play Award in the latter year and been part of the GWS Giants Academy Development Squad in 2019.

All of these have led to the 12-year-old being named in the 42-player squad (two teams) to tour Fiji from December 9-18, 2020.

"I received a tour invitation letter addressed to me that was posted to my school," he said.

"It identified me as a talented player and invited me to attend the 2020 tour.

"There was no direct selection process but letters of invitation were sent to players that had performed strongly at the state championships and were involved in development academies, like Swans or Giants Academy."

During their time abroad, Driscoll's squad will visit Nadi, Suva and the Coral Coast and play four Test matches against Fiji's junior national teams.

"I expect to have a great experience [on the tour]," he said.

"It's going to be amazing to meet new friends, experience a new country, learn new skills and experience what it must feel like to play for an Australian team.

"I am super excited - December 2020 can not come quickly enough."

To prepare for the tour, the ruck rover, who was named both the Bay and Basin's under 13s Best and Fairest and Bomber of 2019, hopes to be named in the South Coast's 2020 Giants Academy Squad at the state zone competition in Albury.

"In general, I would like to continue to improve on my skills, fitness and gameplay and one day play in the AFL," he said.

"But mostly, to continue to have fun playing AFL."

The Wanderers, who now tour Fiji each year, have had Geelong's Jackson Thurlow (Ireland 2009), Sydney's Tom Papley (Fiji 2020) and Port Adelaide's Kane Farrell (Fiji 2015) be part of previous tours before going on to reach the AFL.

Driscoll's exploits aren't just restricted to the Aussie Rules field with him recently being named in the NSW Country under 14s squad for the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in January.
