The CCTV was placed along the Nowra riverfront as part of the Nowra Wharf and Bridge Precinct Safety Project, to help residents feel safe in the area.
Senator for NSW Arthur Sinodinos said the upgrades would make it safer for families to walk around the riverfront at night.
"The whole purpose of this CCTV ... worth $620,000 from a federal government fund, is to make it safer for people and their families to walk here at night - it promotes positive community development," he said.
"I congratulate the council on getting the job done in a very short space of time and Ann Sudmalis the former Member for Gilmore for her advocacy for this project."
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said the CCTV is monitored regularly, and encouraged residents to spend more time along Nowra's riverfront.
"These cameras have been in action and have been monitored on a 'round the clock' basis since July 1 2019, ensuring that residents enjoying the riverside are safe." Clr Findley said.
"Council is committed to working in partnership with the local community and other government bodies to ensure that the security of the Nowra riverfront is enhanced."
Cameras have been installed on poles between Nowra Aquatic Park, the riverfront and Nowra wharf.
The council said pontoons installed at the riverfront are to increase natural surveillance by attracting more people to the area, consistent with the principles of crime prevention through environmental design.
