Gilmore MP Fiona Phillips used this example from a constituent in a speech to the federal parliament highlighting the need for urgent action to improve local hospital services. In her speech she made it clear she wasn't criticising the overworked and underresourced staff at the hospital, who do their best under very challenging conditions.
There were also rumblings this week about the plan for the future of the Nowra CBD, with local resident Bill Hancock calling for council's master plan to be reconsidered, especially a planned loop road around the precinct.
Council came in for praise from another quarter, however, when we were invited on a tour of the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre, which is due to open soon. It's been a long road but we agree with local basketball legend John Martin that the result will be well worth it.
In other good news, we got soaking rain during the week which pushed us over the September average. We're still a long way from busting the drought but it was a good start.
Climate was uppermost on the minds of school students across the Shoalhaven as they joined a global protest calling on the adults in government to take serious action to combat global warming.
