For the June quarter the report said prices averaged around 141.2 cents per litre, nearly 7 cents higher than last year.
According to Fuel Check, the average price for Unleaded 91 in NSW today was 143 cpl.
Nowra, however, has seen some relief in petrol prices over the past two months. From a high price of 142 cpl towards the end of May to now hovering around 135 cpl.
The Ulladulla area saw its highest petrol prices between October and December last year, peaking at a weekly average of 158 cpl.
Chairman of the ACCC Rod Sims said the Australia-wide increase was mostly due to the fall in the value of the Australian dollar.
"The most significant contributor to this increase was the depreciation over the year in the AUD-USD exchange rate, which decreased by USD 0.06 to USD 0.72," Mr Sims said.

"This was the lowest annual average AUD-USD exchange rate in the last 15 years. The AUD-USD exchange rate is a significant determinant of Australia's retail petrol prices because international refined petrol is bought and sold in US dollars in global markets."
Mr Sims said it was important for motorists to shop around for the cheapest fuel and could find help using the available fuel price websites and apps.
In bad new for drivers, NRMA's Rebecca Page said motorists shouldn't expect a fall in prices in coming months.
"You are following the Sydney petrol price cycle and we've just started to come off the top of that but we're not expecting prices to drop for another two or three weeks," Ms Page said.
