James Thomas France told police he had been drinking American honey bourbon after returning a breath reading more than four times the limit.
Police spotted France driving the Subaru in Riverview Road, Nowra around 1.15am, saying he failed to navigate a tight left-hand bend, before oversteering, forcing the vehicle to lose traction.
Police stopped the vehicle for a random breath test and said France got out of the car and threw his keys on the ground.
Police said he was ranting and raving saying he "just wanted a cigarette".
He returned a positive breath test and later a reading of 0.206.
He will reappear in court on July 22.
