The team went into the tournament full of confidence as they were the undefeated Branch Champions in the qualifying branch titles that were staged earlier in the year.
Western Districts representatives, Dubbo, were favourites to take the title and were Shoalhaven's first opponents. As predicted it was a fast paced tough encounter, the Shoalhaven defence repelled everything that was thrown at them, winning the battle 2-1.
The other matches saw Shoalhaven easily account for Eurobodalla 5-1 and Orange 3-0. A special mention for Jaxon Scholtz as he was the leading goal scorer for the team and to Jack Baker for being rock solid in defence.
Also to Mark Johnston for all the support and work he has invested into Shoalhaven Football and putting the area back on the map.
The under 14 boys representative team underwent considerable restructure during the off season and this group only started playing together in March. It has been a pleasure to see the boys improve their synergy with every game they have played. The boys have continued to improve throughout their campaign and played very well on the weekend.
Unfortunately we couldn't win the Country Cup but we pushed every team that we played. The highlight of the weekend was scoring five goals when we defeated Wagga. Over the weekend we had 5 different goal scorers proving we had multiple avenues to goal, with the bulk of the goals scored by Byron Threthewey and James Watterson.
The whole team played well but a special mention should go to Ollie Ellery and Elijah Stapleton who stood out in defence and the midfield. Unfortunately, Taj Smith suffered a significant knee injury in our last game that will see him out of club soccer for a few weeks - we appreciate his endeavours and wish him a speedy recovery. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to coach this team with one son in the team and my oldest son as assistant coach.
Team line-up: Michell Davis, Oscar Hilkemeijar, Daniel Morrison, Jamie Beattie (captain), Caleb Portors, Daemon Anthony, Elijah Stapleton, Hayden Musson, James Watterson, Byron Threthewey, Isaac Burton-Popple, Riley Field, Ben Thomas-McKnight, Taj Smith, Hunter Mclean and Ollie Ellery. Coaches - David and Joseph Morrison.
The Shoalhaven U16 Girls representative side produced a courageous performance in this year's Country Cup tournament, coming runners-up to competition winners Dubbo.
Hosted in Merimbula, the 2019 representative team coached by Brad Banks featured players Kaitlyn Sennitt, Emma Rafidi, Bianca Bailey, Lakia Brown, Taylor Moffatt, Josie Rings, Larni Masterson, Ebony Smith, Jade Ryan, Sarah Cameron, Georgia Vella, Paige Seymour, Lara Garin, Hollie Booth, Kyra McKinnon and Suzie Livermore.
Despite going down to Dubbo 3-1 in their opening match, our representative girls fought hard to redeem themselves in up-skilling Eurobadalla, with a convincing 3-0 win. They then proved their worth by maintaining a 1-1 draw against a well-skilled Bathurst team.
