Mayor Amanda Findley, who has visited the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre site regularly, said the new multi-purpose stadium will bring big opportunities to bring the community together, both socially and through sport.
"When it is finished later this year, the $16.5 million facilities will cater to multiple sports including basketball, volleyball, futsal, netball, badminton and more," Findley said.
"Work laying the sports flooring and external landscaping is almost finished, and staff recruitment is now underway.
"The next stage of the project will focus on finer details such as the fixtures including backboards, scoreboards, audio equipment and cleaning systems, as well as furniture fit-outs and creating operational procedures.
"The installation of the rainwater harvesting tank system will also be completed.
"The new centre will promote the sport throughout our city by catering to the growing demand for indoor court space and increase sport participation during winter months."
Work to the facility which has be completed since December includes; carparks, roadways and pedestrian entries, external landscaping, courts flooring, tiling and carpeting, kitchen and bathrooms and water and sanitary drainage.
