Braidwood Road at Yerriyong remains closed due to a bushfire and is likely to remain that way way for most of the evening.
A number of Rural Fire Service crews have battled a blaze on the western side of Braidwood Road near the southern boundary of the Nowra Motoplex motorcycle complex at Yerriyong for most of the day.
There are road diversions in place in the area, with Braidwood Road closed at the Albatross Aviation Technology Park to the east and Parma Road to the west.
RFS district officer Craig Harrison said fire crews have battled windy conditions which has led to a number of spot fires jumping Braidwood Road.
"We currently have crews battling a fire on the eastern side of Braidwood Road, which has spotted over," he said.
"It has about a 200 metre front at the moment but with conditions starting to ease we are confident of containing the blaze.
"Crew are working alongside heavy plant machinery to extinguish the blaze."
It is one of a number of spot fires crews have battled during the afternoon.
There are currently around 40 fire fighters and eight trucks from brigades across the Shoalhaven at the location.
Mr Harrison said it's hoped predicted calmer conditions forecast for the next two days would allow crews to extinguish the blaze.
"Tomorrow is expected to hit a high of 19 and the winds are expected to drop, which will be an advantage," he said.
"The winds are also predicted to swing from the north west to south east and south west in the afternoon."
Update: 12.30 - RFS crews work to contain Yerriyong fire
RFS crews continue to battle as bushfire fire at Yerriyong.
The fire has been burning in bushland south west of Nowra since last weekend.
Earlier this morning RFS crews had fears the blaze could impact Braidwood Road.
Numerous local crews are in the area, battling the fire and undertaking back burning operations.
There has been minor spotting across Braidwood Road but crews quickly bought that under control.
There are road diversions in place, with Braidwood Road closed at the Albatross Aviation Technology Park to the east and Parma Road to the west.
Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.
Earlier:
Rural Fire Service crews are battling to contain a fire in the Yerriyong area, south-west of Nowra, with fears swirling wind conditions could lead to the blaze impacting on and possibly jumping Braidwood Road.
The wind conditions have also led to no aerial appliances being available but no properties are under threat.
RFS said local road closures were in place around the area as up to 10 RFS trucks and crews battle the blaze.
Changing wind conditions, with gusts up to 35-40km/h swirling from the north-west to the south-west have pushed the fire, which has burnt out 571 hectares, more north towards the Yerriyong Motorcycle Complex.
RFS district officer Brad Collinson said more crews were on their way to help battle the blaze.
"We have local road closures in place and we are asking people to avoid the area," he said.
"There are no properties under threat.
"The wind caught us out a bit on the northern side of the fire and we are working on containment options.
"We will be reactive for the next few hours and there will be a lot more smoke pushing up."
He said 10 RFS trucks and machinery were at the location and more resources were on their way.
"The wind is proving problematic and at this stage, we have no aerial resources available due to the wind," he said.
It has also been reported fire crews at nearby HMAS Albatross have also been placed on standby.
It is believed the fire started after a dumped car was burnout in bushland last weekend.
Mr Collinson said investigations into the blaze would be conducted.
Meanwhile, crews have managed to contain fires at Kings Point at Ulladulla and at Turpentine Road at Tomerong.
