They might be two simple words but they are words that can mean a lot.
They can break down barriers, open up a conversation.
And that's exactly what South Coast NSW Black Dog Ride organiser Paul Gaffney and Rural Adversity Mental Health program (ramhp) coordinator Alsion Tye hope will happen next week when the first Shoalhaven G'Day Mate Barbecue is held.
The barbecue will be held at the Community Gateway facility at the corner of Berry and Plunkett streets in Nowra.
Organised with support from the Shoalhaven Suicide Prevention and Awareness Network (SSPAN), the gathering is a chance for men of all ages to get together and enjoy each others' company over a cuppa and a snag.

"It's a chance for men to get together, socialise and connect over a cuppa and a sausage sandwich," Mr Gaffney said.
"I went to such an event in Batemans Bay after this year's Black Dog Ride and it was fantastic.
"I thought we need something like this in the Shoalhaven and started the ball rolling and here we are.
"I got in touch with SSPAN and Alison about two months ago and we are up and running ready for our first barbecue.
"Through SSPAN we have gained access to some funding and we will have the room in the Gateway each month for a year.
"It's such a simple concept - just turn up and say G'Day Mate."
Ms Tye said men are notoriously reluctant when it comes to sharing their feelings.
"This is all about having a men's social group, providing a network for men. It's a chance to benefit from the emotional wellbeing of connecting with one another," she said.
"Men believe they are stoic - they don't open up - they just don't ring a mate for a chat. Women are much better at getting together and sharing things.
"Just turn up there is no booking necessary - be here at 6pm and we'll welcome you with a cuppa and a meal."
Mr Gaffney has himself experienced "tough times".
"I know what it's like to fall into a deep hole" Mr Gaffney said.
" I had to do something, so I got involved with the Black Dog Ride.
"You realise it's not just you that is having problems, lots of men are going through the same thing."
Mr Gaffney said a couple of local businesses have already thrown their support behind the concept.
"Both Hanlons Window sand Nowra Fresh have come on board backing the idea," he said.
The event will run from 6pm to 7.30pm and will be held on the first Wednesday of each month.
The first gathering is next Wednesday, June 5.
