A record 959 athletes entered the competition and each athlete entered an average of 3.5 events - which meant a colossal 3380 individual entries over the four-day program.
Nowra's superstar Erin Smart travelled to Melbourne to compete in the Championships and came away laden down with medals. Erin took home two relay gold medals and three silver medals.
In her first event Erin kicked off the competition in grand style with a silver medal in the women's 35 years 100m and a new PB of 13.05.
This race also saw her beat the NSW champion who Erin had finished second to at the State Masters Championships. This was a great confidence boost for the rest of her races.
In the 400m event Erin clocked 1:00.88 for her second silver medal. Then in the 200m, Erin ran another PB, crossing the line in 26.64 for her third silver medal.
After bagging three individual medals Erin went on to compete in two relays. In the women's 4x100m relay 120+, Erin teamed up with Monique Perry (44), Yael Reed (36) and Amy Smith (39) to take the gold medal in 51.15.
Finally, in the women's 4x400m relay 170+, along with Renee Briffa (44), Kimberley Fletcher (40), and Gianna Mogentale (55), Erin claimed another gold medal when the team crossed first in a combined time of 4.12.59.
Erin has worked hard over the past 18 months to achieve fantastic results. She is inspirational and a true role model to those who train with her and run with her at Nowra Athletics Club.
