The lovely autumn weather had players out just soaking up the fine weather. Wednesday had 30 bowlers playing one game of Triples and six games of Pairs. Saturday was a perfect afternoon with just a zephyr of a breeze. We had the Grade 4 teams at home to Mollymook Bowling Club and the Grade 6 away to St. George's Basin Bowling Club for Pennant matches. As well as this we had 13 players competing in one game of Mixed Social Triples and two of Pairs.
Wednesday 10th April was a glorious day for bowls with little wind and comfortably cool weather. Greens were running about 16 seconds.
Rink 2 Steve Hollington, Trevor Politch and Graham Mills played superb bowls to rout their opponents by 22 to 9 shots.
Rink 3 held the game of the week. Gary Way and Alessandro Lattanzio opened with a terrific two. Ian Abberley and Graham Eyre quickly evened the score on the third end and then found their sweet spot and scored a fantastic five to surge into the lead. They kept the pressure on and by the 13th end (unlucky for some) were up 15 to 9. Did they switch off or did Gary and Alessandro just find their concentration? We will never know but the result was that over the next 4 end Gary and Alessandro played brilliant bowls to catch then pass Ian and Graham by 18 to 15 shots. Ian and Graham responded the best way possible and evened the score at 18 all during the next 2 ends.
On the penultimate end, Gary and Alessandro dug deeply to move one shot ahead. Could they keep their mojo going? No, Ian and Graham won the last end by a shot to tie the game at 19 all. Now, after 21 ends, it was up to the count back. Ian Abberley and Graham Eyre won the game 11 ends to 10. What a game, boys. You made the blood run hot.

Culburra Women
With a good number of Social ladies out last Tuesday, 2 games of triples and a game of 4's were played. Winners were Maree Guilfoyle, Trish Tom and Lorraine Epple over Ann Dwyer, Jenny Anderson and Trish Bailey, Joy Hanneman, Margaret Gilchrist and Judy Watson over Annette Lapins, Narrelle Wetsteyn and Jean Eagleton, and Julie Cotton, Ruby Salmon, Carol Turton and Robyn Herbert over Edna Baxter, Elaine Turner, Carol Blackshaw and Helen Neilsen.
Thursday saw a group of our Social ladies travel to Huskisson to have a friendly game against our neighbouring clubs. After a lovely morning tea provided by the Huskisson ladies, everyone went out and enjoyed the warm sunny day and some friendly games.
Our number 5 Pennant team, after winning their Section, also travelled to Huskisson to play Milton Ulladulla in the Play-off. It was always going to be a tough game, and although our Culburra team of Julie Cotton, Ruby Salmon, Carol Turton and Robyn Herbert played some lovely bowls, Milton Ulladulla proved too strong on the day.
Congratulations to the ladies from Milton Ulladulla, and well done to our team for winning your Section and making it to the play-offs.
