Endeavour Energy has been taking to the skies to prepare its network for next summer's bushfire season.
Shoalhaven residents can expect to see helicopters patrolling powerlines in April.
"Managing the risk of bushfires is an important part of keeping the community safe," Endeavour Energy's network services general manager Scott Ryan said.
"We are starting our inspections to identify and complete network repairs before the official start of the bushfire season on October 1.
"The aerial patrols identify where repairs are needed, or trees need to be pruned a safe distance to help prevent bushfires being started by powerlines."
Endeavour Energy will use four helicopters to complete inspections in a timely way with the program starting in the Shoalhaven before proceeding to Kiama and Shellharbour.
"The survey is completed using light detection and ranging technology which only captures images of our network to protect people's privacy," Mr Ryan said.
"The view from the helicopters provides for a more thorough inspection of the hardware on the top of poles as well as getting us to areas inaccessible to vehicles."
Endeavour Energy has employed measures to minimise the impact of the helicopter patrols on customers and the community.
"The helicopters fly between 200 and 400 metres above the ground at a speed of about 40 kilometres per and have been modified to be as quiet as possible," he said.
"Farmers, animal breeders and other customers potentially affected by the noise from the helicopters can receive two days' notice days before we fly near their property.
