Vitiello (BVH/Coffeeliscious) took the win from a bunch of 17 riders who were grouped together into the final kilometre of the race.
Tim Devlin was second and two lengths behind Vitiello. Devlin edged Rodney Child (Illawarra CC) out of the major minor placing right on the finish line.
Next over the line and close up was Josh Henry (Hanlon Windows) ahead of Michael Lanyon (Illawarra CC), Brad Oaten (Hanlon), Gavin Nethery (Allen Price & Scarratts), Trent Wiseman (BVH/Coffeeliscious), Brendon Miller (AP & S), Tony Kuipers (BVH), Adrian McMillan (BVH) and Robert Pickard (Hanlon) rounded out the top dozen riders to finish in a close group.
Ian Kielly (AP & S), Jason Spence (Hanlon), John Cullity (Hanlon), Bill Stahlhut (AP & S) and Hubert Driehuis were the other riders in the lead group as the race winning sprint was launched.
Riders from four different clubs had signed on for this 42-kilometre handicap race with 40 riders spread over 18.5 minutes in 12 different groups.
At the back of the field with the major chasing task was the winner and fastest time from two weeks ago in the local George Johnson Memorial, Merrick Law (Illawarra CC) along with Chris Powell (St George CC) and Alex Durant-Whyte of the Sydney Uni Velo.
This trio chased across a two-minute gap to add Mark Astley (BVH/Coffeeliscious), Dave Raymond (Illawarra CC) and Brooklyn Henry (AP & S) and followed up soon after by gathering in the Allen Price & Scarratts trio, Shane Wood, Ben Rolfe and Dan Wells. But from there they were just catching stragglers being left behind by the power of the Vitiello-led bunches as they swept through the field.
One minute after the race had been won, Powell led the back markers over the line and riding the fastest time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 31 seconds.
Powell finished in 20th position and was immediately followed by Law, Rolfe, Durant-Whyte and Raymond.
While the race was won by a Bomaderry Vet Hospital/Coffeeliscious rider the Hanlon Windows team had enough riders in high positions to take the team win for this event.
Bomaderry Vet Hospital/Coffeeliscious placed second in the team classification with Allen Price & Scarratts a close third. The Hanlon Windows team are now the series leaders after round two, on 90 points with BVH/Coffeeliscious and Allen Price & Scarratts equal on 60 points and the defending team champions, Access Storage, on 50 points after their official duties for this round.
The individual points leader is also a Hanlon Windows rider. Josh Henry has 52 points while his team mate Brad Oaten is second on 50 points. Gavin Nethery has 34 points and in fourth position is the winner of this round, Richard Vittiello with 31 points.
Nowra Velo Club racing continues next Sunday with graded criteriums on the Albatross Aviation Tech Park circuit, starting at 8.30am.
