Elyssa Sykes-Smith has been offered a position to study a Masters of Fine Art at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London starting in September.
The unique course focuses on the intersection of sculpture, installation, performance, architecture, and design.
"It's an ideal match for my practice that will foster creative artistic development and business opportunities on an international platform," Elyssa said.
To turn the dream into a reality, Elyssa will run a fundraising campaign through the Australian Cultural Fund online platform.
She will launch the fundraiser at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery on Saturday, April 6.
"I would greatly appreciate any support you may be willing to offer towards my fundraising campaign," she said.
"Every dollar counts and I will share my journey with you."
April 6 also marks the final day of Elyssa's solo exhibition Plaception, which is on display at the Nowra art gallery.
"I am passionate about exhibiting in the local area and giving back to the community which has supported me as an individual and arts professional," Elyssa said.
"I'd love to answer any questions you may have."
The exhibition invites you to question the perception and psychology of place.
The artist asks, do people create place or places create people?
Elyssa suggests that perhaps humans exist in a constantly evolving conversation with our environment.
Fellow sculpture artist Dóra Á Rögnvaldsdóttir provided a glowing endorsement of Elyssa's work at the exhibition opening in February.
"Elyssa has forged a solid and broad career as a sculptor both in Australia and internationally. For most artists her achievements take decades," she said.
"As a sculptor exploration is her forte.
"Her figures are highly abstract but she breathes life into them with her incredible talent and the aid of her favourite tool the drill. We experience them moving, crawling, climbing, engaged in a dialogue with each other. The exploration continues as the artwork reaches beyond the figures and includes the environment. The artwork becomes more sophisticated. The physical environment becomes Elyssa's stage where she creates a dynamic conversation between the figures and their context."
All are welcome to the gallery in the upcoming week and the fundraising launch.
