On day one at Lighthouse Oval, Norths won the toss and sent the hosts to the crease.
After losing both openers Aaron Wester (five) and George Walker (zero) cheaply, Sam Lee (30) and Harley Bell (48) led the fightback for United.
Once those two were dismissed, only Peter King (15) and Matthew Shea (10) reached double figures, as United were all out for 134 in the 41st over.
Weller was the star with the ball, taking 5/36, while first grade debutante Toby Huard (2/1) also claimed multiple wickets.
In reply, Norths also started slowly but crafty knocks from Justin Weller (79 not out), Nick McDonald (29) and Shane Bell (21 not out) saw them reach 3/142 at stumps - despite 1/18 from Matthew Shea.
