Six years later they celebrated their wedding on Saturday, January 5 at Wharf Road in Nowra.
“She’s my Tinder surprise,” Matt laughed.
The former Illaroo Road Public School and Nowra High School student, and Albion Park local, were married before 70 of their family and friends.
Matt’s best mate, Nowra local Michael Burke was his best man, while Tegan’s sister, Erin Murphy joined her as her maid-of-honour.
Seeing his new wife walk down the aisle to ‘You’re so Beautiful’ won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
“That moment when Tegan walked down the aisle would have to be my favourite,” he said.
Matt wasn’t the only family member waiting for Tegan at the end of the aisle.
“Our dog Maggie was standing next to me waiting for Tegan to come down. She didn’t jump in the river so she fulfilled her duties on the day,” Matt said.
While the day went off without a hitch, it wasn’t without some stress in the lead-up. A miscommunication saw them stranded without a florist the week before the big day.
Fortunately a former student of Tegan’s at Albion Park is now a florist and came through with the goods.
“She did a great job and we were so grateful,” Matt said.
The couple now live in Hay in the state’s western Riverina where Tegan took a teaching position.
They enjoyed a week relaxing in Bali on their honeymoon.
