Ladies Day Comp:Pocohontas defeated Snow White 6 sets 36 games to 0 sets 14 games. Top scorers were all Pocohontas on 24 and Ruth on 11. Cinderella defeated Ariel 4 sets 28 games to 2 sets 23 games. Top scorers were Sandra on 21 and Eve on 16. Thanks to Crysanth for subbing. Belle drew with Aurora 4 sets 26 games each. Top scorers were Janice on 21, Kate on 22.
Tuesday mens, Country Pennant and Thursday mixed start this week.

Bomaderry Men
Thursday’s social saw Brian Fletcher and Harry Griffiths take home first place with second going to Gary Thurston and Ray Solway. Allan Kimpton and JJ Martin claimed third. Phil Reid, Gerry Kearney, John Keeffe and Kevin Hartigan all attempted the jackpot wheel with no success. Dale Woods and Nathan Woods took home first place on Saturday followed by Jim Carroll and Brian Fletcher in second with Barry Scott and John Keeffe round out the prize winners in third. Saturday March 2 will be our final week of twilight where there will be extra prizes and a BBQ. There is a nomination sheet on the board.
The February Monthly Pairs were played last week with the following results. First went to Scott Mathieson and Mark Hobill (Nowra) with 2 wins +30. Second went to Bob Webster and John Mac (Bomaderry/ExServos) with 2 wins +24. Tim Flinn and Stuart Christison (Nowra) finished in third with 2 wins +23. The AM margin went to Mark Beaton (Merrylands) with +9 while Ken Parker (Bomaderry) picked up the PM margin with +17. The March Monthly Pairs will be held on Monday 4th March from 10am.
Congratulations Tony Collin, Harry Griffiths, JJ Martin and Gerry Webster who are through to the semi-final of the Zone President Reserve Fours to be held at Warilla this Saturday at 9am. Jim Carroll, Pepe Jakus, Brian Fletcher and Peter Drinkwater also participated in the President Reserve Fours but were knocked out in the first round by Jeff Moncrieff of Kiama 18-15. The second round of the club Mixed Pairs was washed out last Friday with only two ends completed. Round two has been rescheduled for this Friday with cards called at 5pm. In the remaining round one games of the club Major Pairs Greg Salway and Luke West defeated Nathan Woods and Daniel Hiscox 28-15 while Charlie Francis and Rick McLachlan defeated Steve Helson and Chris Rae 20-13. Round two saw Bob Webster and Gerry Webster defeat Bob Brassington and Derek Chapman 26-14. Justin Rumble and Wayne Skinner defeated Peter Drinkwater and Noel Duff 28-11. Due to Zone commitments Luke West V Graeme Hinsley and Paul Smith V Rick McLachlan will have to be rescheduled. Please check the notice board for dates when they are posted.
Berry Men
Wednesday 6th saw Peter Haddon and Phil Chittick in a consistent scoring mode and had their match against Bob Dunn and Rob Folkard won mid match and enabled them to withstand Bob and Rob's late match revival.In the other pairs match George Waddell and Terry Hayes outscored Graham Hook and Lindsay McNamara. The triples match of the day went to the high consistent scoring team of Peter Webb, Geoff Lidbetter and Robin Reid from Mick Vassallo, Derek Raymond and G. Hinsley.
Saturday 9th saw 16 players hit the green and play a very competitive afternoon of Winner and Looser with the top three on the day being Rick Attard/ Terry Hayes, Deb Folkard/ Phil Chittick and David Lambert/ Lindsay McNamara,
This evening at 5.00 pm a trial Pennant match is being played at Bomaderry and a return match will be played at Berry on 20th followed by a visit to Culburra on 24th with play at 10am.
Callala Women
Beverley Young and Tracey Semovente played their Major Singles semi-final in cooler conditions on Tuesday, February 5. This was a hard fought game with the score equal on the 4th, 6th and 8th ends. Bev then took a commanding lead to be 15 – 6, on the 16th end. Tracey fought back, only to go down 15 – 25 on the 32nd end. Thank you to Terry McMillan for marking this game. Pamela Manning (swinger), Judit Fraser and Lyn Byrne defeated Pamela Manning (swinger), Jan Wright and Colleen Tracy 17 – 12 in the social triples game.
The final of the Major Singles was decided on Saturday, February 9 between Terry McMillan and Beverley Young. The weather was sunny and humid after the previous night’s heavy rain and storms. Both ladies started well with the score 4 all on the 4th end. Terry continued to lead winning the match 27 – 6 on the 16th end. The score did not reflect the game. Congratulations to Terry for taking out the 2019 Major Singles title and to Bev for making the final. A great game to watch.
Callala Men
Six games in the Men’s Major Singles were played over the past week. On Wednesday, February 6, Bob Fowler and Marinus Broekhoven played their rain-deferred first round game. Both men started well and were tied 4 all on the 4th end. From then on, Bob put the foot down winning the game 31 -13 on the 22nd end. The next five games were played on Saturday, February 9. Bob Fowler just defeated Col Neighbour on the 36th end, 33 – 29. Ron Wilkinson and Craig Taylor had a marathon battle over 39 ends. End 38 saw both players 30 all going into the decider. Ron was the winner defeating Craig by one shot, 31 -30. Eddie Semovente defeated Paul Mitchell 29 – 11 on the 27th end. Greg McMillan and Stephen Blackley also had a close game with Steve leading Greg several times over 34 ends. Greg won the game 31- 24. The last game saw Dennis Beazley hang onto defeat Chris Harbrow 31 – 27 on the 31st end. Congratulations to all the players for such great game.

Culburra Women
This week saw good numbers of our Social ladies out and enjoying their bowls. Tuesdays results were Carol Blackshaw and Jean Eagleton over Eliza Gunn and Lorraine Epple, Annette Lappin, Lorraine Foster and Sandra Annetts over Dawn Neville, Trish Tom and Elaine Turner, Julie Cotton, Robin Bryan and Carol Turton over Ruby Salmon, Joy Hanneman and Annette Barry, and Betty Oldfield, Narrelle Wetsteyn and Gail Scott having a draw with Marilyn O’Day, Eileen Hunter and Helen Neilsen.
On Thursday we played two games of Consistency Triples and a game of Consistency Pairs. Everyone is enjoying this different format and winners were Julie Cotton, Carol Turton and Robyn Herbert over Marea Challender, Joy Hanneman and Narrelle Wetsteyn, Carol Blackshaw, Jenny Castellan and Judy Watston over Dawn Neville, Trish Tom and Marilyn O’Day, and Sandra Annetts and Lorraine Epple over Helen Neilsen and Eileen Hunter.
This week a number of ladies will be competing in the District Open and Senior Pairs. Good luck to all – play well and travel safe.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men
Clear days were a pleasant surprise this week encouraging great attendance. Wednesday saw a clear, hot afternoon with 34 eager players swarming the rinks. Five games of Social Triples and one of Social Pairs were completed.
Saturday was again a clear, cooler afternoon. This resulted in 25 players and a marker competing in the Championship Major Singles Final, three games of Mixed Social Triples and one of Pairs.
Sunday saw teams representing us in the State President’s Reserved Triples and State Senior Triples Championships. Glad we could again help the RSL bowlers out on Wednesday. Welcome to Sumo from the Basin.
Wednesday 6th February The rain the night before had slowed the green. Rink 1 our first game of the day saw Trevor Politch (welcome back), David Solomon and Graham Mills play outstanding bowls to crush their opposition by 25 shots to 10. Rink 2 in a game of high standards, Terry Wright, Tommy Smith and Dave Milne were flawless in demolishing their opponents by 23 to 13 shots. Rink 4 saw our only game of Pairs where Alessandro Lattanzio and Allan Furniss played superb bowls to get home by 23 shots to 17. Rink 5 observed Matthew Goddard, Paul Goddard and Dave Lawrence play an impeccable game to thrash their opposition by 24 to 14 shots. Rink 6 saw Gary Thurston, Bert Madge and Don Salway play splendid bowls to rout their opposition by 22 shots to 12. Rink 7 in the closest game of the week, Phill Rimmer, Bazza Waters and Graham Eyre just snuck home by a shot to win a great battle by 18 to 17 shots.

Saturday 9 th February saw a surprisingly faster green after it was completely covered by 50mm of water the night before. Our thanks go to the Greenkeepers. Rink 1 This held the game of the week. Greg Morphett, Matthew Goddard and Tony Mikus sprinted away to a fantastic lead of 10 shots to 2 by 7th end. Les Stuart, Gary Way and Graham Mills replied the best way possible and played some brilliant bowls to move into the lead with a fantastic five followed by a fabulous 4. They then extended their lead to 14/11 with some fine concentration. Greg, Mat and Tony, not to be outdone, replied with a fanciful three to level the score again. Les, Gary and Graham dug deep to gain a 2 shot end but Greg, Mat and Tony stayed in the game with a well-earned 1 shot reply. They tied the game on the penultimate end with another 1 shot win. Who would keep their concentration to win the game? Mat took the jack into the ditch and Greg Morphett, Matthew Goddard and Tony Mikus won by a shot. What a game! Rink 2 witnessed a hard fought game with Ian Abberley and Alessandro Lattanzio coming out on top by just 22 shots to 18. Rink 4 observed the Final of the Club Major Singles. In a riveting match, Gary Thurston played wonderful bowls to scoot out to a 7/0 lead. Jim Jameison came back strongly to overpower Gary and get home by 31 shots to 22. All hail the new Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Bowlers Club Major Singles Champion for 2019, Jim Jameison. Thanks to Marker, our Club President, John Edwards. Rink 5 saw magnificent bowls played by Norm Schulz, Alan Morrissey and Allan Furniss to crush their opponents by 23 shots to 11. Rink 6 This game witnessed the girls, Tina Stobbs, Karen Waters and Norma Yee play brilliant bowls decimate the boys by 31 to 17 shots. No hard feelings, NOT much.

Sunday 10th February saw four for our teams represent us in the State Senior Triples and the Presidents Reserve Triples. Seniors: Jim Jameison’s team went down in the second round. John Black’s team went down in the second round. President Reserve: Allan Furniss’s team went down in the second round. Gary Thurston, Michael Edwards and Ray Solway won their first match over the Basin by 20 shots to 18. They followed this up by winning their second round match against Husky by 25/16 shots. Well done boys!! They will represent our Club in the Semi-Finals at St. Georges Basin 24 th February. Congratulations to all participants.
