Kiama MP Gareth Ward will officially launch the program at Cambewarra this Saturday, February 9 between 3pm and 6pm.
The Shoalhaven Landcare Association embarked on the landscape wide fox control trial in August 2018.
The aim was to identify the most cost effective way of removing foxes and to establish a template that could be used in other areas.
“Our initial trial area was from Berry to Budgong where we established 60 control stations on 13 rural properties, all maintained by volunteers,” said project manager, Peter Jirgens.

“From August to December last year we removed 240 foxes from that area at a cost of $15 per fox.
“The success of the Berry to Budgong trial has encouraged us to expand the program south of the Shoalhaven River from Nowra to Wandandian covering 550 square kilometres.
“The northern side of the project has gone really well. But moving to the south is a massive undertaking - it’s a huge area.”
Mr Jirgens said the project was looking for interested property owners together with 20 volunteers to be involved in the program.
Volunteer roles include maintaining control stations, sensor camera monitoring and administration.
“If you are concerned about the impact foxes are having on livestock, domestic animals and native wildlife and would like to be part of this project, go to the Shoalhaven Landcare website and follow the links to email us,” Mr Jigens said.
“It’s a chance if you are interested to be part of the program to come along and be inspired by the success in the Berry to Budgong area, hear about our planned expansion to south of the Shoalhaven River, meet other like-minded people and hear how you can be involved.”
The launch will include a demonstration of various fox control measures, a presentation about the success and lessons learnt during the trial, a presentation by Rewilding Australia about their success in Booderee National Park and opportunities for people to get involved in the project.
