At the Nowra Showground, the host won the toss and sent the visitors to the crease, a decision they quickly regretted.
Despite Luke Huard being run-out for just three, by Justin Wallace, Norths quickly asserted their dominance.
A strong 27 by Jack Carter and handy 37 from Justin Weller helped first drop Nick McDonald find his groove at the crease.
McDonald went on to score 101 from 147 balls, an innings which included 13 boundaries and two sixes – before being dismissed by Jono Clack.
A sharp 58 from Samuel Lowcock and 21 from James Batson then helped Norths reach 251, before they were all out in the 57th over.
Mitchell Smith (2/8), Jono Clack (2/30) and Jason Bell (2/33) all took two wickets each for Nowra, while team mates Cameron Fernie (1/21), Jordan Pearson (1/28) and Jono King (1/83) all claimed one scalp.
In reply, the hosts have their work cut out for them on day two, after a slow start to their innings.
Norths skipper Justin Weller continued his purple patch with the cherry, by claiming 2/8 from his four overs – leaving Nowra at 2/14 from seven overs.
Both Cameron Fernie (three) and Justin Wallace (two) are already back in the sheds – as Jason Bell (six not out) and Ryan Henry (three not out) will be at the crease when play resumes on day two at the Nowra Showground.
