Batemans Bay’s Malcolm, Berry-Shoalhaven Heads’ Dobson and their team opened their under 14s tournament with a tough 40-over loss to ACT Southern Districts at the Holbrook Sporting Complex.
After winning the toss, Greater Illawarra sent ACT to the crease – with their opponents posting 1/156 from their 40 overs.
Dobson was the lone wicket taker with 1/22 while Malcolm finished with 0/19 from his six overs.
In reply, Greater Illawarra were all out for 139 in the 39th over, despite 31 from Malcolm and 18 from Dobson.

Dobson’s 1/11 from four overs help restrict Newcastle to 8/92 before Malcolm’s 20 with the bat saw Greater Illawarra reach the target (7/94) with four balls to spare.
The side couldn’t build on their win in game two, going down to North Coastal in their third match at Kelly Park.
After being sent in, Greater Illawarra could only muster 8/88 from their 20 overs, with Malcolm contributing eight.
In response, North Coastal reached 4/90 in the 18th over.
In their fourth match, Greater Illawarra returned to the winner’s circle, defeating Central Northern (9/139 to 6/135) at Howlong Oval – thanks to 30 from Malcolm and 12 from Dobson.
Greater Illawarra finished their week-long tournament on a high, defeating Riverina 2/155 to 151 in their final 40-over match at Baranduda Oval.
The star of the match was Malcolm, who finished with an incredible 8/17 from his 7.4 overs – which included two maidens.
His Shoalhaven counterpart Dobson then shone with the willow, scoring 51 from 108 balls, to secure the eight wicket win.
On the back of these strong performances, both Malcolm and Dobson were selected in the South East NSW ACT under 14 State Challenge team.
