Tuesday Night Men’s
Tuesday night tennis was a long night. First we had to complete the washed out semi finals from the previous week. The expectations on team Red who were the minor premiers was great however they were defeated by team Yellow who finished the comp in 4th place. The other semi between Gold & Silver was a tight match with sets being equal and the match being decided on games resulting in Silver beating Gold.
We saw the “master” coach Mark Pritchard up against the “protégé” Justin Pritchard. Mark proved to be too strong winning his 3 sets however this was not enough for an overall win. Justin’s team members Troy, Clayton and Joost proved too strong for the opposition and came out grand final winners. Congratulations to Team Yellow Justin Pritchard, Byron Harvey, Clayton Muller, Troy Webster & Joost Hilkemeyer.
Tuesday Ladies
This was a very hard fought match which came down to the very last set, Joy’s Jenny Wrens prevailing winning by 4 sets 36 games to 4 sets to 34 games over Ruth’s Robins. Top scorers were Joy on 24 and Jill on 22. Congratulations and well done every one. Thanks to our “social committee” for organising a delicious grand final luncheon.
Thursday Mixed
Division 1: This match didn’t go according to plan for Team Puggle. Team Shepherd was too strong for them on the night and Puggles did not win a set. Thank you to Steve Akehurst who subbed for Col Armstrong in Team Shepherd. Col was in hospital having surgery on his foot. We wish him all the very best and although he will be unable to play tennis again he will be very welcome back as our maintenance man and soon we hope.
Division 2: Team Hemlock was the winner on the night over Team Wolf’s Bane. This was a win for the underdogs. Team Hemlock played well and deserved the win, congratulations.
We have to convince Mark Andriske that he should not play tennis in his PJ’s. That is what probably put the other team off.
The next round of comps start the week of February 4, 2019.
Cheers and Merry Christmas to all.
