On Thursday Women's Golf contested the Captain v President Trophy as a 4BBB Stableford Matchplay event. The match was not for the faint hearted with the weather “wild and woolly” throughout the event. The strong winds created many a challenge to keep the ball on target. The harsh conditions also made putting quite difficult, with strong gusts sending leaves, branches and other paraphernalia across the greens. There was many a close match to be had but the decider was between Captain Jenny Brown and her Vice Captain Angela Boadle against President Sue Stephens and Vice President Sue Hunter. This contest was the last to be completed and went to the wire on the 18th hole. The Captain’s side was one up after the 17th so the President’s team needed a win to square the match. It wasn’t to be but the hole was squared which meant the Captain’s team prevailed one up.
It was great excitement in the club house when it was revealed that the win meant a result in the Captain’s favour by 4 matches to 3 and one match squared. It was a well deserved win particularly since it had been won by the President last year. Jenny Brown took much pleasure in receiving the perpetual trophy from Sue Stephens.
Nearest to the Pin 8th – Div 1 Cathy Ison; Div 3 Ellen Ryan. 12th Drive and Pitch – Div 1 Jill Levi; Div 2 Patricia Austin; Div 3 Donna Hewat. Jackpot 16th – Div 1 Des Thornett (in the hole); Div 2 Margaret Jennings (in the hole); Div 3 Jill Downie.
Next week, 29th November Women's Golf play a Four Person Hartball Ambrose.
On Sunday the course was converted to all par 3 holes for the South Coast Par 3 Championships. Country Motors offered a car for a hole in one on the 12th hole, but whilst a few players found the green, none could find the hole!! Thank you to Glenn Buikstra & Alan Bryant for putting up the car and Shirley & Gordon Lymbery for scrutineering. Thank you also to Bill Rigney from Nowra Printing and Men's Golf Nowra for sponsoring the event.
Gloria Davis took out the scratch score for the women with 25 points and the old stager, Graeme Todd- Wilson made a comeback to win the men's scratch with 32 points. Well done Gloria & Graeme. The women's handicap event was won by Margaret Ford with 43 points from Patricia Austin 41 and Gloria Davis third with the best 40. The ball rundown went to 38 points.
The men's event went to Cliff Weatherill with 42 points from Collin Lott 40 and Peter Courtney with the best 39. The ball rundown went to 36 points. There were nearest the pins for women & men on all holes, so most players were able to have a piece of the action. Brett Trenerry was chuffed to win the raffle to allow him many "brownie points" to allow him to play next weeks golf.
The next Sunday event is a Mixed 2 Person Ambrose on December 16, the Christmas Hams & Turkeys Day, sponsored by Gloria & Dennis Davis & Linda & Derek Trusler. The timesheet is now open, so get your names down.
