The event was held at Eungella and Teemburra Dams with three teams in the running for the title.
Carruthers made a successful run at the title in 2017 and returned this year to defend it with team mate Dean Silvestor.
The duo competed as part of Team BCF, with the goal of claiming the title as the defending champs.
They competed against Team Firefly and Team Jack Links.
During the qualifying rounds all teams fished against each other on Eungella Dam, with the target species being Sooty Grunter.
After a close run, Team BCF and Team Firefly came out on top and PO Carruthers progressed to the final round.
After a change of location to Teemburra Dam, the two teams went head to head targeting the iconic sports fish Australian Barramundi.
After a very close final round, PO Carruthers was able to net the winning barramundi in the final 15 minutes of the round.
This secured the team their second and back to back Australian Fishing Championship.
“Thanks go to 725 Squadron for affording me the opportunity to compete in the championship and retain the title,” Carruthers said.
“I am overjoyed to win back-to-back championships and hopefully I can extend the streak to three in a row in 2019.”
