Gilkes’ 128 from 159 balls, an innings which included 15 boundaries and one six, helped his Bumble Bees side post 299 in their first innings on day one.
On day two, Gilkes’ side restricted opponents Bankstown to 268 – with the Ulladulla junior taking one catch, making one stumping and assisting on one run-out.
UNSW, who now have two wins and two draws to their names, next face Western Suburbs at Village Green on Saturday in a one-day fixture.
Unfortunately, the start to the Sydney season hasn’t been as successful for fellow Ulladulla product Tom Engelbrecht and his St George team.
Through the first four rounds, Engelbrecht’s side have one draw and three losses to their names – with Eastern Suburbs up next.
Other Shoalhaven products playing in Sydney this season include North Nowra-Cambewarra juniors Kaleb Phillips (St George), Philip Wells (Campbelltown-Camden) and Nowra’s Adam Ison (Campbelltown-Camden).
