The benefits of music and singing are well known, especially as we age. Through the shared joy of singing, we aim to promote wellness in ageing, improve health and well-being and reduce social isolation by providing an opportunity for participants to make meaningful connections with other people in their community.
It’s for everyone, including those living with dementia and their carers.
Happy Sounds love seniors from all over the Shoalhaven to come along – the group sing many favourite songs from the last 100 years.

Participants are asked also to nominate their own favourite songs to be included in the repertoire.
Since the majority of guests are over 60 years old, they go for golden oldies such as A White Sport Coat, Dream a Little Dream of Me, Hello Dolly, He’s Got the Whole World in his Hand – and many more.
Julie Emery can play nearly everything thrown at her, and the group is often joined by other musicians, on guitar, trumpet, whatever they can contribute.
Happy Sounds is not a choir, just a group who like to sing. The smiles on the faces of people each week say it all. Helpers are also welcomed to encourage the singers, help with welcoming the participants and do the morning teas.
Head along to the Shoalhaven Senior Citizens Centre at 33 Berry Street, Nowra (just up the laneway near the Roxy cinema), between 10:30-12:30 each Friday (except some school holidays)
Enjoy a morning tea for just a gold coin donation, and you’ll be can guaranteed a wonderful morning of music, led by Julie Emery.
