Shoalhaven Mariners looked outstanding in their new junior uniforms.
Pirates Blue are a well-developed team whom some players have played representative level baseball. Sadly, our Mariners team went down 14-2 but they put in a good game coming back from no runs scored till the last innings, bringing in our 2.
First innings saw Pirates Blue come out strong with the bats having 3 safe hits bringing in 4 runs. Mariners were full of first game nerves and started slow not allowing any safe hits or runs. Saxon Reghenzani-Tate took a great catch in the field and also a good stop getting the out at first base .
Second innings saw Pirates Blue continue to advance ahead having 1 safe hit bringing in 3 runs , with Mitchell Parrott starting Mariners batting line up off who coped a pitched ball to the hip getting on base but again Mariners unable to gain any runs. Noah Tagliabracci was Mariners standout on the field.
Third innings Mariners kept Pirates Blue to only 2 runs across the plate stepping up their fielding work and bats coming alive but unfortunately still not able to gain any runs. Mariners stand out in the field was Mason O’Rourke making a great play from second base to first for the out .
The fourth and final innings saw Pirates Blue come out strong having 4 safe hits bringing over 5 runs while Mariners came out their strongest and batting wisely still only to bring across 2 runs. Mariners outfielders Mitchell Parrott and Cooper Stibbard were well worked doing a great job.
Pitching duties were shared, starting was Saxon Reghenzani-Tate who pitched 43 pitches, 17 strikes, next up was Noah Tagliabracci who pitched an outstanding 48 pitches, 35 strikes, 4 strike outs. Noah pitched in 3 innings allowing only 4 safe hit from 13 faced batters. Finishing pitcher was Mackenzie Mannix with a terrific 28 pitches, 11 strikes.
Catching duties were shared between Mitchell Parrott and Daniel Lawler who both did a great job.
In other Mariners news, the club attended Illawarra Baseball presentation on Saturday held at Illawarra Leagues Club.
Mariners had a strong 2018 season wining Minor Premierships in both Major and Minor 2nd Grades, bringing trophies home for both along with both Premiership trophies.
Mariners Major 2nd Grade player Brenton McMahon won the umpires award for that grade.
A great result for the conclusion of our 2018 senior season with Mariners bringing a total of five trophies home.
