Many of our readers will know Tony Emery (pictured). He’s the boss of Soilco and an active member of the Shoalhaven Business Chamber who energetically campaigns for local road improvements. He’s also heavily involved in community activities, including KidzFix. He’s also a bit of a larrikin, whose easy smile reflects a winning sense of humour

Last week, Tony made history when he became the first digital subscriber to southcoastregister.com.au.
He told us just before he signed up he had been waiting for ages for a subscription that allowed him access to the website and a digital version of the printed editions he could read on his iPad and computer.
The day our subscription model went live, we fielded a call from a reader in Canada, who stayed in touch with Shoalhaven news via our website. He said he was a great fan of southcoastregister.com.au and would be happy to sign up so he continue to access our content.
Another local who signed up early had this to say about his decision: “I personally love seeing the daily news and updates and have been reading the SCR for many years for free so thought I was well worth the small outlay to keep this going.
“The site is always informative, very clean and easy to navigate, so tell the team (and yourself) keep up the amazing work.”
And this from another: “It’s a way I can keep up news from the Shoalhaven on a regular basis having been born in Milton and living and working in the Nowra area all my adult life together with my involvement in Jaycees and Lions I do have lots of happy memories.
“Since moving to Woonona some eight years ago for family reasons I have tried to keep up with events on my computer, but this certainly gives me a fuller picture. Congratulations for your initiative for moving with the times and wish the new venture every success.”
We’re very proud of what we do at the South Coast Register. For years, we covered local news. We celebrated triumphs and we’ve reported the tragedies. We’ve held power to account by asking our politicians the hard questions. And we’ve been tireless in advocating for the community we serve. Subscriptions will ensure we can continue playing that important role.
So to those people who have come on board and subscribed, we say thank you. The show of support means a lot to us.
