Resident Yolande Buchan is fed up with certain dog-owners leaving their dog faeces along the the North Street Shared Path.
“It is time to let dog owners know that the ‘Poop Fairy’ does not exist,” she said.
Over the past month or so, frustrated residents have tried a number of things to try and combat the problem.
One resident, Di Bezant has been bagging the left-behind droppings and disposing of them, but Ms Buchan said this shouldn’t have to happen.
“Di was bagging the droppings and leaving the bags in the same spot on the path before putting them in the garbage each week,” she said.
“Some people were pretty horrified but we were trying to show people how awful it is,” she said.
The pair have also put signs along the pathway to deter people from doing the wrong thing.
While the situation has improved over the past week, Ms Bezant said the issue wasn’t just relative to Berry.
“I walk with my grandchildren out at Shoalhaven Heads and it’s all along the paths there too,” she said.
“Dog owners all around the Shoalhaven need to do the right thing, it’s not hard.”
As per Shoalhaven City Council, all dog faeces need to be picked up, bagged and disposed of on all waking tracks and off leash areas.
“It’s a council rule that people need to pick up their dog poo, and people need to follow that rule,” she said.
“People all over the Shoalhaven need to respect the rules.”
Ms Buchan and Ms Bezant said people needed to lead by example when it comes to dog poo.
“If one person does it, someone else will follow and think it’s okay,” Ms Buchan said.
“Everyone needs to do their part to keep our streets and pathways clean.”
