After cruising into round three at the men's QS 3,000 event, Watson qualified for round four, which he dominated – winning heat one of that round.
His two-wave score of 15.50 (8.67 and 6.83) saw him finish ahead Italy’s Leonardo Fioravanti (13.50), Spain’s Vicente Romero (10.16) and France’s Adrien Toyon (9.30).
But the Culburra Beach Boardrider couldn’t carry that strong form into round five, where he finished fourth in heat one.
Watson managed to score 5.50 and 6.23, for a combined 11.73, seeing him finish behind Brazils’ Weslley Dantas (13.10), Brazils Lucas Silveira (12.47) and France’s Nomme Mignot (12.43).
Gerroa’s Dean Bowen also competed in this event, being knocked out in round three.
