Construction begins at Shoalhaven's second G.J. Gardner Variety Freedom House

Construction on the Shoalhaven’s second G.J. Gardner Variety Freedom House began on Thursday, with completion expected in early 2019. 

Working with local developers, tradies and suppliers Nathan Fay and Sean Vickery from G.J. Gardner Homes Shoalhaven are building a family home at cost price and selling it off to the highest bidder, with 100% of the profits being donated to Variety - the Children’s Charity.

The four-bedroom home will be built in new estate, Carrington Heights, at South Nowra.

Over the past five years, Variety has given $648,000 worth of support to 19,000 kids in the Shoalhaven, who are living with disabilities, chronic illness, financial hardship, geographic isolation or needing critical care.

Variety CEO David Sexton said now that three homes had been built, more than $850,000 had been raised through sales. 

“All that money goes straight back in to supporting and helping our kids which is fantastic,” he said. 

“Last year we granted almost $4 million in NSW and ACT alone so every dollar counts.” 

G.J. Gardner Homes Shoalhaven director Nathan Fay said he felt very fortunate to be able to give back to the community. 

“We are inspired by the great work of Variety and it’s an honour to be able to build our second Variety Freedom House right here in Nowra,” he said. 

“It’s so heart-warming to see our trades and building partners get behind this project. The more community support we get, the more kids we can help.”

The very first G.J. Gardner Variety Freedom House project commenced in 2014. Since then another two homes have been built in Sydney and Tamworth.
