The Berry grass fire took off around the 9am mark, while a number of other major fires also sparked.
Six Rural Fire Service units joined with Berry’s Station 224 and CT 405 from FRNSW Nowra and they got the fire under control.
The grass fire broke out along Tannery Road and the strong westerly wind pushed the fire towards David Berry Hospital.
The fire, at its peak, was described as hectic but under control.
The strong winds made containing the fire difficult but the crews stood up to be counted.
Trucks were redirected to David Berry Hospital for fire protection and liaised with nurse staff for the possible evacuation of patients and fortunately the fire was contained and the evacuation plan was cancelled.
NSW Ambulance representatives were also on hand to assist if needed.
Embers were also near and on a nearby railway bridge which did impact the train timetable.
Units then had to rush to Narang Road, Bomaderry to help out with Wednesday’s major bushfire.
The RFS’s Shoalhaven district officer Brad Collins would like to thank all the services who helped fight the Berry blaze and all the others that engulfed the area.
