Thick smoke blanketed the area, visibility was down to metres, with brave firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service fighting the raging, oncoming beast. Day almost turned to night as the smoke blocked out the sun.
Numerous crews fought and saved the various properties and businesses along the stretch of highway, the only casualty a shed at the rear of one of the properties, which contained motorbikes and car parts.
The emergency later moved to the Nowra Saleyards area where crews again fought and successfully defended and saved property.
