In the under 14s, Bomaderry’s Joshua Costain and Nowra’s Seth Pearman played key roles in maintaining their team’s perfect record in this competition in 2018.
After winning their seven pool matches, against Maitland, Port Macquarie, Dubbo, Newcastle, Lithgow, Albury and Gosford City, they qualified for the finals in first.
This unblemished record saw them match-up with Newcastle in the semi-final at Minto on Saturday – a match they won 51-35.
This win saw them straight into the grand final, where they would eventually face Newcastle again – after they edged Albury 61-37 in the preliminary final.
In Sunday’s final, it was a near mirror scoreline to the day before, as the Hawks won 51-37.
The win sees Costain and Pearman’s Hawks, who are now 27-0 on the season, qualify for the NSW State Titles, held at Maitland from August 24-26.
This team will also travel to Kilsyth to contest the Under 14s Club National Championships from September 30 to October 6.
Not to be outdone was Costain’s older brother Gavin, who helped his under 18s team defeat Newcastle by just three points in the final.
Differently to his brother’s side, Gavin’s side went 5-2 through their seven CCL pool matches – losing to Gosford City and Newcastle.
This qualified them in third for the weekend’s finals, where they defeated Bathurst (85-65) and Gosford City (64-47) on their way to the final – which they won 82-79 in overtime.
Gavin, who had 24 points in the final, will next travel with his Hawks team to Terrigal for the state champs from August 24-26.
