While riders were happy with the track surface, which was declared a heavy 10, poor visibility posed a threat throughout the day.
The local contingent was well represented by Terry Robinson and training combo Robert and Luke Price who each prepared winners.
Fortune’s Path, ridden by Jeff Penza, took out the Robert Oatley Wines maiden plate over 1400 metres for Robinson.
The three-year-old gelding jumped well from barrier two for Penza to take an early lead, and managed to hold out for a length win over First Reading second and Miss Demi third.
Mohican, ridden by Kathy O’Hara, took out the Kel Campbell Fuel Haulage benchmark 55 handicap over 1400 metres.
Resuming after a short freshen up, the race favourite was loaded into the gates when the weather was at its worst for visibility.
Settling at the tail of the field from barrier eight, the four-year-old gelding cut a path up the middle up the field to win by two-and-a-half lengths over Cherokee Warrior second and Pretty Smart a length away third.
It was one of two wins for O’Hara, who claimed a winning double when she also partnered with Warwick Farm trainer, Graham Brown, to take out the KNK Builders Nowra class one handicap over 1100 metres aboard Lass Vegas.
The race day was the last for Nowra on the NSW Racing calendar, the next meeting will be held on August 26.
