On Saturday, Shoalhaven Mariners second grade team travelled to Fred Finch Park to take on the Berkeley Eagles 2A side.
In a completely dominant performance, The Mariners again showed why they will be the team to beat this year, leading the game from start to finish.
The game started with a real bang in the 1st inning as Mariners hitter, Jack Middleton, hit a three run blast out of the park to straight away centre field. Jack would go on to hit four from five, scoring four RBI’S.
Courtney Dom also contributed well with the bat reaching base all five times he was up to bat and going three from four, with three RBI’S.
In the field the Mariners were led well by starting pitcher, Brenton McMahon, who threw four strong innings. McMahon conceded just one hit, striking out five and allowing one run.
Some great catches from centre fielder Lee Lawson and right fielder Andrew Provest were key in keeping the Eagles score low. Mariners running out 14-2 victors and maintaining their spot on the top of the ladder.
This coming Saturday Mariners will travel to Hector Harvey field to take on the Dapto Panthers.
Minor 2nd Grade
Mariners travelled to Fred Finch Park at Berkeley on Sunday to play Wollongong Cardinals.
Once again, another great game against competition leaders Cardinals minor 2b team in very difficult conditions.
Mariners started the batting with two runs straight up in the first innings. Cardinals replied by hitting the gaps well and putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first innings.
In the second innings Mariners piled on the runs taking to the Cardinals pitcher putting on a mighty seven runs and restricting Cardinals to only three runs.
The third innings Mariners kept putting runs on the board with another three runs.
Mariners fielding stepped up with a fantastic double play which involved Leith Grant, Dalton Haines and Stuart Raymond. The third out was completed by a nice fielding effort from Leith Grant not allowing Cardinals any runs.
The fourth and final innings Mariners added two more runs to their list. Jordan Butfield was extremely unlucky not to have an out of the park home run. Instead the ball bounced on top of the home run fence and bounce back into play.
Cardinals staged a comeback in the bottom of the fourth innings bringing in four runs but were stopped short. Mariners taking the game out 14-10.
Mariners two pitchers Austin Raymond and Andrew Provest did well in the trying windy conditions.
Mariners hitters pushed the ball all over the park with Stuart Raymond having the only triple hit of the game.
Double base hits went to Stuart Raymond, Jordan Butfield and Mathew Moore. Single hits went to Andrew Provest, Jordan Butfield, Leith Grant (3) and Brian Cremin (2).
Minor 3rd Grade
Mariners travelled to Fred Finch Park on Sunday to play Dapto Chiefs in poor weather conditions.
Mariners started well in the first innings keeping things tight with no hits to Chiefs 2 hits and score of 1-0 to chiefs, stand out for the innings being Kalysta Palmer taking a great catch in left field.
In the second innings Mariners bats come alive, Kalysta Palmer forcing Chiefs errors and Anthony Burgess having Mariners only safe hit to centre field. Mariners taking the lead of 4-2.
In the third inning Chiefs made a come back having a couple of hits finding the gaps with Mariners unable to advance taking the score to 6-4 to chiefs.
In the last inning chiefs came out firing with the bats while Mariners having only one double hit from Greg Symmans ,with a finish score line of 10-6 to Chiefs.
This was a great game for players and spectators to watch with a game that could have gone either way showing how much improvement Mariners have made so far this season.
Pitching duties were shared by Daniel List completing three innings 56 pitches having three strike outs and Dalton Haines finishing one innings throwing 22 pitches with one strike out.
Anthony Burgess did a great job with the catching duties, completing a full game.
