For many, it was the only hot meal they enjoyed for the week.
Their meal, friendship, care and support came from Bomaderry based Salt Ministries from the group’s Saltbox program.
Saltbox is a weekly program where Salt opens its doors to the community, providing lunch, groceries, clothing and a chance to have coffee and tea together.
Salt’s Ash Hudson said all volunteers looked forward to the weekly event.
“We aim to provide a friendly and supportive environment to give our friends and neighbours relief from the day-to-day challenges,” she said.
“We aim to connect families and build a friendly, supportive environment for people to get to know one another. We like to support anyone in need in any way we can, especially those who tend to fall through the cracks in government-run social services.
“At Salt, we welcome everyone and encourage people to bring their families and friends and take some time out of their busy weeks to have a cuppa and a chat.”
Saltbox runs every Thursday from 10:30-1pm at Bomaderry Community Centre (5-17 Birriley Street, Bomaderry).
Everyone is welcome.
Come and enjoy a cuppa and lunch and make some new friends.
Free hampers are available, along with free lunch, bread, clothing, tea and coffee.
Saltbox does not receive any government funding and relies on community donations.
During Saltbox the group also provides other health and welfare services and often have workshops that run throughout the day.
